Spread awareness on law and legal procedures: ZP chief

ON THE LAW: The legal awareness programme in progress at the zilla panchayat meeting hall in Hassan on Thursday.

HASSAN: A legal awareness workshop was conducted for zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat and gram panchayat members at the Hoisala meeting hall of the zilla panchayat here on Thursday.

Zilla panchayat president Annappa Shetty, who inaugurated the workshop, said that the judiciary was an important wing of democracy and should be respected by all. He said awareness should be spread on laws and legal procedures. He also appealed for a speedy disposal of cases so that people would respect the law. He advised elected representatives to make the best use of the workshop.

Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat F.R. Jamaadar said that the Hassan Zilla Panchayat was the first in the State to have conducted legal awareness workshops for teachers, anganwadi workers, members of voluntary and social organisations, and now the elected members of the zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat and gram panchayat. He said that legal awareness among people would not only bring down the crime rate but would also promote respect for the law.

In his presidential remarks, Principal and District Sessions Judge A.H. Adappanavar lauded zilla panchayat CEO for organising the workshop.

Zilla panchayat vice-president Kamakshi Raju, Deputy Secretaries R.G. Naik and K. Kariyappa, and senior advocate I.M. Mangala Gauri spoke.

Principal Civil Judge P.N. Desai welcomed the gathering and Hassan Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Veerabhadra Swamy proposed a vote of thanks.
