SHIMOGA: The budget estimate of the Shimoga City Municipal Council for 2007-2008, which was formally accepted at a meeting on Thursday, showed a surplus of Rs. 3.39 crore. While the revenue from various sources, including the opening balance of Rs. 14.86 crore, was Rs.74.08 crore, expenditure for the year was Rs. 70.68 crore. Municipal Commissioner Jayanna, who presented the budget, said it had been proposed to implement all development projects taken up by the previous elected body. Former municipal president B.A. Ramesh Hegde took objection to the non inclusion of some of decisions taken by the previous elected body for the improvement of the Mahatma Gandhi Park. President of the Shimoga District Chamber of Commerce and Industry K.V. Vasanthkumar suggested that major decisions taken by the previous elected body be implemented. He sought details of the allocation for the implementation of these projects. Though Mr. Jayanna could not promise implementation of all decisions on development projects taken by the previous elected body, he said they would be carried out wherever possible. He said the meeting of representatives of various organisations, associations and former councillors would be convened on Monday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Administrator T.K. Anilkumar to elicit views on development projects to be implemented during the next financial year.
