THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Opposition members on Thursday walked out of the State Assembly in protest against the Speaker's denial of permission to raise the Nandigram issue in the House. Just as the day's legislative business was to begin, Deputy Leader of the Opposition G. Karthikeyan sought the chair's permission to report to the House what he and his colleague K.V. Thomas had learned about the police firing at Nandigram, in West Bengal, during their visit to the place on Tuesday. The me mbers of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) were immediately on their feet, protesting. The House witnessed a noisy scene for a few minutes as the Opposition members belonging to the Congress and the other parties in the United Democratic Front joined the argument. Speaker K. Radhakrishnan called the House to order and ruled that the issue concerned the "internal matters of another State and has nothing to do with Kerala." At this point, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy announced a walkout.
