BHUBANESWAR: The brewing resentment over delay in holding election to the students' union on the campus of Utkal University took a violent turn on Thursday with a group of students locking up the Vice-Chancellor's office, the administrative block and the chamber of PG Council Chairman. Students also threatened to launch an agitation, demanding removal of Vice-Chancellor L.N. Mishra for his alleged failure to hold the election. "We have given enough time to authorities to take a decision on holding the election. They have also given us enough assurances. We don't need further assurances," Subhasish Acharya, a student leader, said. Following the agitation, top officials had to wait outside their offices for a few hours. "Examinations are to begin on April 20. There is little time left for the authorities to decide on holding the election. The Vice-Chancellor has been sitting on the issue for over two months," Mr. Subhasish said. Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, PG Council Chairman P.K. Sahoo and Registrar Bichitrananda Das held a series of meeting to calm down the students.
