Rajahmundry: In a joint operation, police special teams of Vizag and Rajahmundry nabbed on Thursday a person who allegedly masqueraded as an All India Congress Committee member and private secretary to AICC general secretaries Ahmed Patel and Fotedar. The accused, S. Balagangadhara Tilak, was arrested along with a middleman Chittoori Venkateswara Rao in Visakhapatnam. The actual mission was taken up by the Vizag special party crime police. Tilak was trapped after Panduranga, a faculty member of English Department, SKVT College, Rajahmundry, filed a case against him. Tilak was introduced to Panduranga in September by Venkateswara Rao. Tilak made him believe that he was close to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his secretary Jannath Hussain. Panduranga then asked Tilak to arrange a medical seat for his daughter in M. Vinayagar Medical College, Chennai. Tilak demanded Rs. 3 lakhs as initial payment, which was paid via demand draft. Tilak again asked Rs.1.50 lakh in cash for payment towards confirmation of seat, which too was paid.
Response of college
He then demanded another Rs.2.45 lakh towards first fee instalment in Mamata Medical College, Khammam. When contacted, college officials told Panduranga that no payment was made towards the said seat. Panduranga lodged a police complaint after this.
