TIRUPATI: An 18-year old girl Soni clambered up a mobile phone tower in Kallur in Pulicherla mandal, 50 km from here, and threatened to jump off if parents of her lover Shaw Nawaz did not allow their marriage. The police arrived at the scene and prevailed upon the boy's father to agree for their wedlock, leading to the girl climbing down. But the drama did not end there. The boy's father backtracked on his `promise' forcing irate villagers to launch a sit-in in the middle of the road. The blockade was lifted only after the reluctant father agreed for marriage, which would be performed early on Friday under police escort.
