28 students injured

TIRUPATI: Twenty-eight students were injured, ten of them seriously when a school van skidded off the road near Madanapalleon Thursday.

The driver is absconding. A case has been registered against the school management. — Special Correspondent

Fast for IIT

HYDERABAD: Senior Telugu Desam leader S. Venugopala Chary and five leaders of other parties would commence their indefinite fast from March 24 here at Indira Park, demanding location of IIT at Basra.

Warning to Reliance

HYDERABAD: The Krishna-Godavari Gas Reserves Protection Committee has warned the Reliance Industries against piping the gas to Gujarat or other States without first meeting the requirement of the State. The panel will launch an agitation from March 27 to press its demand. — Special Correspondent

ATM centre opened

TIRUPATI: An Automated Teller Machine of UTI Bank was inaugurated by district Collector Shamsher Singh Rawat near the IOCL filling station at the Corporation junction in the city on Thursday. The ATM here comes in handy for the visiting pilgrims and businessmen. It is connected to the Chittoor branch and is the 162nd ATM in the State and 2,225th in the country. Five injured in clash

KURNOOL: Five persons were injured in a clash at Tavisikonda under Bethamcharla police station limits in Kurnool on Thursday. According to reports, two groups clashed over conducting rural sports meet in the village. The injured were rushed to the hospital. - Staff Reporter

Auto driver's gesture

KURNOOL: In a noble gesture, an autorickshaw driver returned a cash bag containing Rs. 61,500 to members of a Self-help group at Ieeja in Mahabubnagar district. The members who engaged the autorickshaw to reach the bus station forget the cash bag while alighting from the vehicle. Mahabub Basha who noticed the cash bag, deposited it with the Fourth Town police, who restored it to the owners.- Staff Reporter

Interest waiver for farmers

KADAPA: Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank has effected interest waiver up to June 30, 2006 and credited the interest to accounts of all eligible farmers as per Prime Minister's Interest Waiver Scheme 2006, general manager of the bank Anjaneyulu said on Thursday. Farmers who did not require loan reschedulement should inform the bank branch concerned by March 24, he said. Farmers' loans would be automatically converted as long-term loans, he said. - State Reporter

Poet to be felicitated

Kakinada: Poet Janaki Jani will be felicitated on the occasion of his completion of 75 years of age and in recognition of his services to the literary field at a function at the Rangaraya Medical College auditorium here on March 25, according to the organising committee headed by Yandamuri Veerendranath. Computer training

Kakinada: DRDA Project Director Ch. Kumaraswamy inaugurated the Internet learning programme arranged at the Vijay.com centre by Sifty-Iway here on Thursday. He said the week-long training would be helpful to the economically weaker sections.

Kakinada: The Kakinada area committee of the CPI staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Thursday seeking supply of electricity to the canal bank hut dwellers on the RTO road. The demonstrators raised slogans demanding power supply.

Commits suicide

Kakinada: A farm worker- Rayudu Nageswerarao (45) has reportedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his home in Nadipudi village on Thursday.-Correspondent

Survey work stalled

VIZIANAGARAM: Despite presence of large number of police, farmers under the banner Project Vyathirekha Porata Samiti stalled survey work on Tarakarama Theertha Sagar at Kumili once again on Thursday. The oustees raised slogans demanding that the project design be changed and announced compensation package to the affected farmers. .-Correspondent

KV entrance test

VIZIANAGARAM: The newly established Kendriya Vidyalaya here will conduct entrance test for admission into classes 2 to 5 on March 25. The admission test for classes 2 and 4 will be from 9 am to 12 noon and for classes 3 and 5 it will be from 1 pm to 4 pm at the school on that day.

Couple ends life

KHAMMAM: A young couple committed suicide by jumping into the Wyra reservoir on Thursday. The police fished out the bodies and efforts were on to identify them. According to reports, the couple came from Paladugu village and had blood tests in a hospital at Bonakal. Further investigation is on. - Staff Reporter

CI to inaugurate court complex

NARSAPUR: G.S. Singhvi, Chief Justice of the High Court, will inaugurate a court building complex here on March 31. He will also open a Fast Track Court, according to K.V.
