"Mulayam deceiving Muslims"

Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW: The plaintiff in the Babri Masjid case and convener of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, Mohammad Hashim Ansari, on Thursday accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh of deceiving Muslims.

Addressing a press conference, the octogenarian Mr. Ansari, the oldest surviving plaintiff in the original title suit, said Mr. Singh had promised the Muslims that if a Samajwadi Party Government was formed in Uttar Pradesh, he would issue a fresh notification. He regretted that after the formation of the Government in August 2003, the Chief Minister went back on his words.

Shielding BJP leaders

Mr. Ansari slammed the Chief Minister for shielding some BJP leaders, including Lal Krishna Advani, who were named as accused in the case. Stating that the Chief Minister had not issued the fresh notification despite several appeals made by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Mr. Ansari said it showed that Mr. Singh was repaying a debt to the BJP that had helped him form his Government.
