Special Correspondent

Hooda promises compensation to the affected farmers

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Thursday that the State had suffered crop loss of about Rs. 900 crores due to heavy rains and hailstorm.

The Government would provide compensation to the farmers for their damaged crop as well as postpone the payment of Abiyana for the next six months in the hailstorm-affected areas, Mr.Hooda told media persons.

He said that the Government had enhanced the floor rates of compensation for the acquisition of land in view of the increasing market rate of land and persistent demands from the people. He asserted that the land was being acquired only for developmental works and no person was compelled or forced to sell his private property.

For the urbanisable area of Gurgaon, the rates had been revised from Rs. 15 lakhs per acre to Rs.20 lakhs per acre. Similarly, for the rest of the National Capital Region (NCR) including Panchkula, the rates had been enhanced from Rs. 12.5 lakhs per acre to Rs. 16 lakhs per acre and for the rest of the State, these had been fixed at Rs. 8 lakhs per acre.
