Candidates backed by RWAs intensify campaigning

Staff Reporter

They raise issues that have been bothering the residents

NEW DELHI: The Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) backed candidates contesting the forthcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections intensified their campaigning on Thursday, the last day for withdrawal of names. During their interaction with people they raised local issues that have been bothering the residents over a period of time. United Residents Joint Action, a front of various RWAs, said Vandana Sehrawat, who has been backed by them from Kapashera in South Delhi, began her door-to-door campaigning early in the day in Nangal Devat and Kapashera villages. A woman candidate in a male-dominated area, Vandana is banking upon her own experience of electioneering to ensure her victory. A former Delhi University Students' Union leader, she is also learnt to have been `blessed' by Village Panchayat of Shahbad and Nangal Devat.

S.P. Gupta who is contesting from the Rajender Nagar ward, started canvassing early in the day in one of the stronghold areas of RWAs. During his meetings, Mr Gupta met several representatives of various RWA and market associations in the area.

With a limit on election expense, most candidates have been distributing pamphlets to tell people how they intend to improve their constituencies if elected to the MCD. During his campaigning on Pitam Pura South, R.K. Khanna assured the residents through pamphlets that he would solve their age-old problems of sewage and poor basic amenities among other things.
