CHENNAI : To mark World Tuberculosis Day (March 24), Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health (REACH) will organise a programme for patients, community volunteers, and the public to reinforce the concepts of TB control and to initiate a sustained awareness campaign. A short ad film, starring actor Suriya, produced by REACH, will be launched on March 24 at the Russian Cultural Centre in the presence of Suriya, health secretary V.K. Subburaj and other officials. This apart, the Group plans distribution of pamphlets by student volunteers at key areas in the city. On the same day, the Chest Foundation of India (CFI) will organise a poster exhibition in Tamil and English at the Koyambedu Bus Terminus between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to create awareness about TB. Patient education pamphlets will be distributed and important TB messages aired on the closed circuit TV at the Terminus. The Chennai Corporation, along with CFI, will screen patients for TB between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. by doing a sputum smear microscopy, and the sputum positive patients will be referred to the nearest Government Health Centre.
