CHENNAI : The Central Crime Branch police arrested a college principal in connection with misappropriation of a private trust's funds to the tune of Rs. 45 lakh. Investigating officers said here on Thursday that based on a complaint from Daniel Chakravarthy of Venkambakkam here, a case of breach of trust was registered against J. Joel (53) of Palayamkottai, who has been working as a principal in a college at Nazareth. The complainant had proposed to start a college along with three others including Joel. They had established a private trust from which Rs. 1 crore was reportedly handed over to Joel who had purchased about 10 acres of land in Tirunelveli district. However, he had allegedly indulged in misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 45 lakh. A special team secured Joel from his residence and after registering a case under Sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 409, read with 109 IPC (breach of trust by any person). He was produced before a city court, which remanded him to judicial custody, a press note said.
