CHENNAI: Metropolitan Transport Corporation will start operating services from Egmore Railway Station from March 25. A bus bay has been created on the northern entrance to the station opposite E.V.K.Sampath Salai - for the operations. Commuters have been demanding the service at Egmore Railway Station for a long time now. They had sought a service similar to the one in operation at Central Railway Station. A press release from the transport corporation said that 36 routes were to be operated via the bus bay at the northern entrance. The services include the routes towards Aminjikarai via Dasaprakash: 15, 15B, 15B extension, 15D, 15F, 15F cut, 15G, 15L, 15L cut, 20, 20A, 20B, 20C, 20M, 50, 50A, 53, 53E, 53P, 61B, 61D, 61D extension, 61E, 71C, 71D, 71F, 71h, 101, 120, 120 Cut, 150, 153 and 553. There will be totally 163 services passing through the bus bay and in all 2,305 trips are planned every day. Vehicles that currently halt at the Police Department Stop on Poonamallee High Road will turn right to the northern entrance of Egmore and stop there. In addition to the above routes, the MTC has also decided to relocate and operate 28, 28A and 28B services from the Egmore bus bay. These routes will operate 22 services, making 248 trips a day. According to sources, MTC planned a trial run on Thursday at the bus bay but the road got damaged. The stretch was being relaid and expected to get ready before the launch of the services on Sunday.
