CHENNAI: The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations began with the Language (Paper I) on Thursday. Around 7.77 lakh students, including 40,000 from the city, are taking the examinations this year in 2,634 examination centres in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The number of students appearing for the SSLC examinations has gone up by 37,000 this year. On Friday, students will appear for the Language (Paper II) examination. After a break during the weekend, they will give their English (I) and English (II) Papers on Monday and Tuesday. Police inspectors and flying squads, along with educational officers in various districts, will supervise conduct of the examinations to ensure that the students do not indulge in malpractices. Students from schools following the Matric and Anglo-Indian streams took their first examination on Wednesday, while examinations for students under the OSLC stream began on Thursday.
