Water level

MADURAI: The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 109 feet (136 feet) on Thursday with no inflow and a discharge of 142 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 31.76 feet (71 feet) with an inflow of 125 cusecs and a discharge of 41 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 847 mcft.

Advocates' stir to go on

Members of the Madurai Bar Association on Thursday resolved to continue the indefinite boycott of courts that began on March 13. The advocates are agitating for implementation of Tamil as an official language in the High Court. According to the MBA secretary, A.K. Ramasamy, the general body decided to hold discussions with representatives of advocates' associations of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday. "We will take a decision on how to intensify the agitation," he said.

Youth murdered

K. Tirupathi (27) of Moonur was murdered at Oomachikulam here on Wednesday night. According to police, Tirupathi was tied to a chair and strangled to death by V. Chinna Dayalan (34) and his associates. Previous enmity is suspected to be the cause of murder. The body was shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem.— Staff Reporter
