Unaccounted cash seized from RTA office
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Anti-Corruption Bureau officials seized an unaccounted sum of Rs 1 lakh from the Road Transport Authority's West Zone office, Asifnagar, in the city on Thursday.
A special team of ACB led by Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Krishna Kumar, raided the office around 4 p.m. on a tip-off.
Some 15 private persons, believed to be acting as agents for the RTA staff to collect bribes, were found inside the office.
All of them were taken into custody and questioned, Mr. Kumar said.
What surprised the ACB officials was concealing of money at different places in the office. Money was kept in small amounts on the top and beneath almirahs, on the tables, near the windows and in the files, the DSP said.
Some of the staff members allegedly threw away currency notes through the windows on learning about the searches by the ACB officials. Mr. Kumar said they would be sending a report to the Government and a case registered as per the directions of the higher-ups.
