KOCHI: Social and environmental activists in the city called for conservation of water resources on the occasion of World Water Day on Thursday. Former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer urged the authorities to protect the rich water sources in the State. He suggested promotion of rainwater harvesting for tackling water scarcity in the city. Environmentalist S. Sitaraman pointed out that water in large quantities was wasted following leakage in the pipelines of the Kerala Water Authority in several areas in the district. He urged the authority to put up signboards having emergency contact numbers to report incidents of water leakage. P.S. Gopinathan Nair of the Kerala Nadi Samrakshana Samithi said the authorities should protect the existing resources from pollution and other human interferences.
