BANGALORE: Just as land developers in the Bangalore Metropolitan Region (BMR) area are seeking lifting of restrictions on development of land, here is a shocker. The Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) has issued a fresh notification saying that the restrictions will continue till it receives approval from the Government. In other words, the restrictions will continue indefinitely. A notification issued in this regard on March 20 said that the restrictions imposed on undertaking development activities in the five local planning areas of Anekal, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Magadi and Nelamangala, and Area Planning Zones (APZ) for Ramanagaram and Chennapatna will continue till the Government takes a decision. Restrictions on development activities in these areas were imposed on July 14 to facilitate development of interim master plans. The notification was issued after developers started seeking clarifications on lifting of restrictions as the date of completing the interim master plans were earlier indicated as December 31, 2006. The BMRDA has already prepared interim master plans for the local planning areas and submitted them to the Government on December 1, 2006 and for the APZ-1 on December 31. Pending approval, sanctions for layout plans, land conversions and others have been stopped. Sources said that BMRDA had sent eight letters to the Government seeking approval for the interim master plans, but no action had been taken in this regard. Following restrictions, R.V. Someshwar, general secretary of Karnataka State Land Developers Association, told The Hindu that all developments on nearly 5,000 acres of land had come to a standstill. Investment of over Rs. 8,000 crore made by land developers had been blocked following the restrictions imposed on July 14, he said.
