BANGALORE: Two children, Sheeja and Sneha, were injured in a dog attack on Wednesday evening at Somasundarapalya in Bommanahalli. While Sheeja suffered minor injuries on her hand, Sneha had reportedly been bitten on her thigh, leg and hands. Meanwhile, following a direction by the State Government, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has invited an expert team from Ahmedabad headed by Rahul Saigal to take up animal birth control (ABC) programme in the five new zones. The civic body has sent an acceptance letter to the Ahmedabad-based NGO asking it to take up the programme in the new areas. "Although the NGO had quoted Rs. 32,200 as travelling expenses, we have refused. We will only pay them Rs. 375 and Rs. 395 for every male and female dog respectively that they trap, neuter and release," a statement issued by BBMP Deputy Commissioner (Health) Manu Baligar said. Last week, Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi had directed the civic body, which is setting up new dog pounds and upgrading the existing ones, to deploy the services of the Ahmedabad expert team to conduct the ABC programme using "Trap, Neuter and Release" (TNR) technique on a pilot basis for 8,000 dogs in the new areas.
