HYDERABAD:
Members of Save Education Committee (SEC), Hyderabad Central University (HCU) unit on Thursday said that there was a need for debate and public opinion before the Government allows private universities to function in the State.
Ordinance
Talking to mediapersons, Secretary, SEC, HCU unit K. Laxminarayana said that the Government is planning to introduce an ordinance to allow setting up of private universities.
He also informed that earlier the Government had promised to seek public opinion on the issue, however, now it has decided to forego its promise.
"We believe that opinion from a wide spectrum of experts has to be taken before going for private universities.
We would soon submit a memorandum to this effect to the Chief Minister," Mr. Laxminarayana informed.
Regulatory mechanism
The members of the SEC felt that there is no mechanism in place to regulate private universities and the Government is yet to take public into confidence before introducing this concept.
