LUCKNOW:
A bench of the Allahabad High Court here on Thursday sought to know from the Uttar Pradesh Government the action it intended to take against the reported decree issued by a Muslim cleric for beheading controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice H.L. Gokhle and Justice Pradeep Kant, passed the order on a public interest litigation petition filed by a local lawyer seeking action against Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, president of the All India Muslim Personal Board (Jadeed). The petitioner pleaded that issuance of such fatwas (decrees) was against the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution. — PTI
