Fatally knocked down

TIRUCHI: A constable attached to Armed Reserve, Tiruchi (Rural) was fatally knocked down by a milk van on the Tiruchi - Chennai by pass road near Palpannai circle here on Wednesday. Special buses

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation will run about 100 special buses round the clock from Tiruchi and Manapparai and Karur towns to Palani from March 31 to April 2 for the benefit of the devotees in connection with the Panguni Uthiram festival. Special buses would also be operated from Tiruchi Chathiram Bus Stand to Kumaravayalur, Tiruchi Central Bus Stand to Viralimalai, Karur to Palamalai, Thuraiyur to Chettikulam and Perambalur to Chettikulam on these days.

Children rescued

The Childline, Tiruchi, rescued four children in the city on Thursday. Two of them, who had runaway from a hostel at Fathima Nagar, were spotted at the Central Bus Stand.

Inspection

Officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) conducted surprise inspection at industrial units and business establishments in Thillai Nagar and Srinivasa Nagar on Thursday. Over 40 TNEB engineers conducted the inspection in 2,245 power connections during which they found metre fault and violations, a release said.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 79.35 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Thursday. The inflow was 972 cusecs and the discharge, 1,500 cusecs. - Staff Reporter
