NEW DELHI: Using his star appeal to good effect, former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress for its failures to meet the aspirations of the people despite being in power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Assembly and at the Centre. Addressing a press conference at the Delhi BJP headquarters, Mr. Sinha said he has come to Delhi, his place of work, to launch a "jehad'' against the Congress as he wanted to awaken the people. With the BJP securing one victory after another in the recent past, he said its win in the MCD polls is written on the walls. "Following victories in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttarakhand, the party now has its eyes fixed on winning Delhi and then the Lok Sabha polls,'' he said.
On the reasons for the BJP's return to power, the former Hindi film star,
"The common man feels cheated by the Congress. The condition of the poor, labourers, farmers, workers, daily wagers, rehri-patri shopkeepers, vendors, hawkers and rickshaw-pullers has deteriorated in its rule,'' he said in his inimitable style. Besides, caring for the poor, he said the BJP has also given greater representation to people from Poorvanchal, from where most of these people hail, in distribution of tickets. Then in a lighter vein, he said, while "my role is limited, but the scope is unlimited''.
