Security around Moninder's house tightened

Staff Reporter

NOIDA: Tight security measures were put in place around the house of Moninder Singh, an accused in Nithari serial killings, here on Thursday after the Central Bureau of Investigation filed the first charge sheet in the high-profile case.

"Security was tightened after the violent protest outside the house earlier this month. However, in view of the recent development additional force has been deployed and barricades have been put on the road leading to the house to pre-empt any attempts to disrupt peace," said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, an uneasy calm prevailed outside the house as the relatives and family members of the victims gathered some distance away to protest against what they called the CBI's attempt to shield Moninder.

"It is a deliberate attempt by the CBI to shield Moninder by weakening the case against him. The entire blame has been put on Surender Koli to save Moninder. A servant cannot have the courage to commit such ghastly act without the consent of his master," said Ramkishen Dhamuk, whose three-year-old son Harsh is said to be the youngest victim in the Nithari killings.

Jhaboo Lal, whose daughter Jyoti also figures among the victims, said: "The CBI has arrested Simranjeet Kaur for accepting bribes from Moninder to favour him and his servant. Earlier, several police officers were sacked and transferred for their alleged attempts to shield the culprits. If Moninder was not involved why did he offer favours to the police."

The victims' families said they were not satisfied with the investigations into the case and added that they would call on President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to seek his intervention in the matter.
