Letters to the Editor
The editorial "Action replay in Parliament" (March 22) is a mild rebuke of the unbecoming conduct we witness in both houses of Parliament. The Government is virtually being run without Parliament. There was a time when MPs' speeches were replete with wisdom. There was no live telecast of the proceedings and we eagerly awaited the newspapers to read the speech of leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Bupesh Gupta, and Piloo Mody. Nowadays, MPs read out speeches to empty chairs. Members are seen in the well of the house with the presiding authorities having no control over them.
V.S. Sankaran,
* * * The Opposition is indeed creating an ugly precedent. Important bills are being passed without proper deliberations. One hopes it will mend its ways when the budget session commences.
Bishal Das,
* * * I am confused as to whether I should feel proud about being part of the largest democracy or ashamed of the irresponsible behaviour of many of our leaders.
Satyam Sharma,
