Letters to the Editor
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's call to the people and civil society groups to make water management a national obsession could not have come on a better occasion than World Water Day. We, as a people, are notorious for wasting water. We associate cleanliness and hygiene with pouring copious buckets of water over ourselves, that too twice or thrice a day. We do not spare even our gods. Conservation of water resources should be pursued on a war footing. When lakhs of our brethren living in deserts are forced to traverse miles to get a pot of drinking water, it is a crime to waste water. There should be a ban on ad films depicting wastage of water in the name of promoting soap sales. Let us pledge to use the scarce and precious resource for the benefit of society, and share it selflessly with all our countrymen.
