"Tarique has underworld links"

Haroon Habib

DHAKA: The former Bangladesh Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia's eldest son, Tarique Rahman, arrested on charges of crime, corruption and misuse of power, is now facing yet another charge of involvement with international underworld gangs. The caretaker Government has asked the nation's intelligence agencies to probe reports that Mr. Rahman, who is also a senior office-bearer of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), had connections with the Indian underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, and had met him in Dubai. Communications Adviser Major General (Retd) M.A. Matin told reporters on Thursday, "The intelligence agencies will try to find out whether the media reports on Tarique Rahman's alleged links with Dawood Ibrahim are correct."
