DHARWAD: A three-day drama festival "Shripati Rangasiri Natakotsava" has been organised by Abhinaya Bharati, Dharwad, in honour of theatre artiste Shripati Ranganabailu, who recently received the Rajyotsava Award for 2006. The theatre festival is being conducted with the assistance of Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi, the State Department of Kannada and Culture and the Karnataka Nataka Academy. The theatre festival, starting from March 25, will have three plays directed by Shripati Manjanabailu and a seminar on Manjanabailu's contribution to Belgaum theatre, Aravind Kulkarni, secretary of Abhinaya Bharati, told presspersons here. That is how the organisation dedicated to theatre activities plans to honour a playwright, he added. On the first day, at 10 a.m., film director and theatre artist T.S. Nagabharana will inaugurate the seminar on Shripati Manjanabailu at Srujana Rangamandir in Dharwad where D.S. Chougale, R.G. Nadiger and Nagabharana will give lectures on Manjanabailu's contribution to the theatre movement. The same day at 6 p.m. Abhinaya Bharati team will enact "Udhwasta Dharmashale", a Marathi play of Govind Deshpande, translated to Kannada by Vinayaka Nayak. On March 26, the same team will enact "Nimitta" of Jayanth Kaikini and on March 27, Ranga Sampada of Belgaum will present "Besugegollada Haligalu" of D.S. Chougale, he said.
Award
He said the "Abhinaya Bharati Ranga Prashasti", an annual award instituted by the organisation, would be conferred on theatre artist Pramod Shiggaon this year. The award would be conferred on Pramod Shiggaon on the last day of the festival. Shripati Manjanabailu will also be felicitated, he said.
