PATHANAMTHITTA: Sabarimala and Pampa are experiencing acute water shortage due to the drying up of Pampa. The sad state of affairs at the pumping station of the Kerala Water Authority at Pampa-Triveni reflects the reality. Devotees were forced to trek to the Sannidhanam without taking the customary holy dip in the Pampa on the first day of the 10-day annual temple festival on Friday. Many devaswom buildings at the Sannidhanam and Malikappuram, including the pilgrim shelters, were closed owing to disruption in water supply. Water was being provided only to the Devaswom Guest House, Maramath Complex and the Pilgrim Shelter-I at the Sannidhanam, besides the rooms attached to the temple premises. The Kunnar dam in the upper reaches of Sabarimala turned dry in January itself.
