Budget flights to Doha, Bahrain

NEDUMBASSERY: Much to the delight of Gulf-bound air travellers from Kochi, Air India Express (AIE), the budget carrier of Air India, has added two more destinations, Doha and Bahrain, to the list of Gulf destinations connected by it.

Under the summer schedule, which will come into effect on March 25, the budget carrier will take over from its parent company the operation of services in the Doha-Bahrain sector from Cochin International Airport.

These services are now being operated by Air India. According to the renewed schedule, there will be four services a week, on Sundays (IX 471), Mondays (IX 455), Wednesdays (IX 473) and Fridays (IX 473), to Doha-Bahrain. On Sundays and Wednesdays the flight will depart from here at 7.10 p.m., on Mondays at 6.25 p.m. and on Fridays at 7.35 p.m.

With the addition of these services, the total number of services by Air India Express from the Kochi airport will increase to 36 during this summer. Subsequently, Air India will be left with only six weekly services under the summer schedule, to Kuwait (3), Dammam (2) and Riyadh (1).

When Air India Express was launched it was declared that the budget carrier would gradually take over majority of the Gulf sector services from Kerala. As far as the Kochi airport is concerned, the proposed switchover is almost complete with the change in the operation of the Doha-Bahrain services. For, the airline had said very recently that services to Kuwait, Dammam and Riyadh would be retained by Air India for operational reasons.

Passengers who have already been issued Air India tickets to Doha and Bahrain have been requested to contact the airline office to replace those tickets with Air India Express tickets.
