Ireland captain feels "spooky"

Melbourne : Staying just four rooms away from the suite where Bob Woolmer was found murdered at Kingston's Hotel Pegasus, Ireland skipper Trent Johnston says he has been struggling to sleep in peace ever since the shocking death.

"It's sort of spooky. There wasn't too much sleep I had last night after the press conference where they escalated the investigation to the level they have," Johnston said.

"It's lock your door and that sort of stuff," he was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Johnston said his team would always cherish the upset win over Pakistan, which booked them a place in the super eight stage of the World Cup, but Woolmer's death turned their elation into shock.

"The police were down the hallway on Friday, and it looks like the forensic guys are in there turning the place upside down. It's a strange feeling to have excitement one moment and then to find out that someone who was actually part of the game has passed away." Johnston said.

Ireland also lost its former Cricket Union President Bob Kerr and the skipper said it had been hard for the team to keep its focus on cricket.

"We've had a bad few days. It's been tough but we've trained hard, and in our spare time, we stick together; we're down at the pool or having a hit of tennis. We just want to be a part of this and stay here for as long as we can," he said. — PTI
