Bidar: The district administration will ensure that the three cooperative sugar factories in the district crush sugarcane grown by small and marginal farmers. Farmers should enrol themselves with the village accountants, tahsildars or the Deputy Commissioner's office. They have to be either members of the factories or have registered their names with the factories for this year. A list of farmers will be sent to the factories, who would be asked to crush their cane on a priority, according to a schedule fixed by the district administration. Tahsildars at the sugar factories will monitor if the schedule is being followed. "There is no legal backing for such a move. But we cannot keep quiet when sugarcane farmers are dying," Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil told presspersons. He was referring to the suicide by a sugarcane farmer Shivanand Veershetty Biradar on Thursday.
