Belgaum: Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy is likely to lay the foundation stone for the Survana Vidhana Soudha (SVS) here in the second week of April. The Government will hold the world Kannada meet in the second week of September. Mr. Kumarswamy is stated to have given such an assurance to a delegation of Kannada organisations which met him in Bangalore on Thursday. Prominent among those who led the delegation included former Mayor Siddangouda Patil, Mukhyamantri Chandru, Belgaum Urban Development Authority Chairman Shankargouda Patil and Belgaum District Kannada Organisations Action Committee President Ashok Chandargi. The organisations, which were apparently disappointed over the delay in laying the foundation stone for SVS and postponement of the world Kannada meet, had been urging the Government to announce the dates for the laying of the foundation stone sand holding of the sammelan. Mr. Chandargi said in a press release here on Friday that the Chief Minister gave a patient hearing and expressed that he was convinced with the issues confronting Belgaum district and assured that there would be further delay on laying foundation stone for the SVS. During his visit, the Chief Minister would also lay the foundation stone for the ambitious and Ring Road construction works. Mr. Kumarswamy had promised to establish SVS in Belgaum to enable the Government to hold legislature session in Belgaum once every year. Subsequently, though he had announced to lay foundation stone to start the construction work for the building during the Kannada meet in the last week of February, it was postponed in the light of final verdict on Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. Mr. Chadargi said the Chief Minister also promised to hold the Kannada meet in Belgaum in the second week of September. The Chief Minister ruled out bifurcating Belgaum or any other district.
