Plea to extend loan waiver to bank

Staff Correspondent

  • 714 members of the bank owe an outstanding of Rs. 3.24 crore
  • PCARD bank does not disburse crop loans

Madikeri: President of the Madikeri Taluk Primary Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development (PCARD) Bank B.P. Kaverappa on Friday appealed to the State Government to extend the benefits of loan and interest waiver, below a sum of Rs. 25,000, to the bank since the clients of the bank were not covered under the scheme.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Kaverappa said he had faxed a request to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and others concerned to take immediate steps as clients had stopped making repayments owing to the Government announcement. The recent announcement of the Government sops did not apply to the PCARD bank since it had given long terms loans, not crop loans. The waiver pertained only to loans from cooperative societies, which had disbursed crop loans.
