Free eye camp

KOLLAM: In association with the District Blind Control Siociety, the Kollam YMCA is organising a free eye camp on April 7 at the YMCA Hall here. Doctors from the Tirunellveli Aravind Hospital will lead the camp. Those requiring cataract operation will be taken to Tirunellveli the same day, operated and discharged within seven days. KSCDC director Board

Panchayat president, secretary convicted

THRISSUR: President of Kunnumkara Panchayat in Aluva Kala Devi and secretary A. Aysha were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years by the Vigilance Court on Friday in a case relating to financial irregularities in road works. 3

Call for smooth conduct of Pooram

THRISSUR: District Judge M. L. Joseph Francis has said that steps should be taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the Thrissur Pooram.

Addressing a discussion on `Supreme Court order and Pooram,' organised by the Peoples' Council for Social Justice here on Friday, he said that it was not proper to comment on the Supreme Court order before its details were available. - Staff Reporter

Women robbed of gold and cash

THRISSUR: The police received a complaint on Friday from Savitri, wife of Kizhakkumpattukara Vellayikkal Kalidasan, that she was robbed of 30 sovereign of gold and Rs.20,000.

A gang of four persons broke open her door, got into the house and threatened Savitri and her housemaid, flashing a knife, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 2.30 a.m. — Staff Reporter

Call for changes in education sector

Thrissur: More changes are needed in the State's education sector, M.A. Yusufali, managing director of EMKE group, has said.

Addressing a meeting to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Placement Sales and Services Limited, he said that these changes should equip students to make use of opportunities in the global job market.

He claimed that about 10,000 people found jobs through the Placement Sales and Services Limited over the past 10 years. - Staff Reporter
