Court stay on G.O.

HYDERABAD: Justice G. Raghuram of Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday stayed the operation of order issued by the Government to sell seized pulses in Rythu Bazar and other places on the prices fixed by the Government. The judge was dealing writ petitions filed by traders challenging the Government action. The Government had issued orders to sell these pulses through PDS. The judge felt that proper concurrence from the Union of India was necessary for the sale and stayed operation of the G.O. - Legal Correspondent

BJP plea on Girijan lands

HYDERABAD: A BJP delegation led by its State president B. Dattatreya, met Governor Rameshwar Thakur, seeking Government action to hand over Girijan lands in agency areas occupied by others, back to Girijans.

The delegation regretted that the Girglani Commission report was not implemented by the Government as yet although it was submitted years ago. The Governor promised to arrange a meeting shortly to find out a solution to the issue. - Special Correspondent

Farmer ends life

KADAPA: A sugarcane farmer Venkataiah (25) committed suicide by consuming pesticide granules in his house in Hanumanaguthi village in Yerraguntla mandal on Friday. Venkataiah, who owned four acres, incurred debts of about Rs. 4 lakhs by sinking borewells, which did not yield water. He took the extreme steps under pressure from debtors to make repayments, according to officials. - Staff Reporter

Leopard electrocuted

ANANTAPUR: A five-year-old leopard was electrocuted when it came in contact with livewires laid around a groundnut field by a farmer near Mallakalva village of Dharmavaram rural mandal in the district in the wee hours of Friday.

According to the Forest Department officials, the villagers allegedly skinned the carcass and removed its nails. A case was booked under the Wildlife Preservation Act, DFO Venkateshwarlu told mediapersons. - Staff Reporter

20 taken ill

WARANGAL: At least 20 people were taken ill after consuming stale food and were admitted to the MGM Hospital here on Friday.

The victims reportedly consumed food, which was left over at a marriage function held on Thursday night. Doctors said their condition was stable. - Staff Reporter

e-darshan counter

KADAPA: Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, Kadapa MP, inaugurated e-darshanam (Sudarshana token) counter at TTD kalyana mantapam near PBC Colony in Pulivendula town on Friday.

People could reserve accommodation, darshanam etc. at the counter two to 60 days in advance, the MP said.

Paediatric hospital

TIRUPATI: The Union Ministry of Health has reportedly cleared a proposal to set up an exclusive 200-beded paediatric hospital at Tirupati. According to Chintha Mohan, Tirupati MP, the proposed hospital will be located in close proximity to the existing Government Maternity Hospital here. .

KURNOOL: Former MLA T.G. Venkatesh, TDP leader S.V. Mohan Reddy and educationist Kesava Reddy inaugurated the journalists' sports meet here on Friday. While Mr. Venkatesh extended medical facilities at Gowri Gopal Hospital at 50 per cent concession to journalists, Mr. Kesava Reddy offered free education to their children. Mr. Mohan Reddy promised Rs 5,000 to the bereaved families of journalists.

Visakhapatnam: Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh will visit Visakhapatnam and Paderu on March 27 and 28. After reaching here from Hyderabad on March 27, he will go to Paderu. He will return here on March 28 and leave for Hyderabad on way to Delhi.

Rape attempt charge against old man

VIZIANAGARAM: Dasada Adinarayana (60) of Kummari Veedhi in the town was arrested on Friday when he reportedly lured an eight-year-old girl to a secluded place and attempted to rape her on Thursday night, according to E. Narasimha Murty, II town Sub-Inspector. A case was registered on a complaint by the girl's mother. -Correspondent
