Patna: The Patna High Court on Friday directed Bihar Government to complete the pending investigation into 31 cases against tainted police officials and submit the Action Taken Report (ATR) on May 24. A division bench comprising Chief Justice J. N. Bhatt and Justice S. K. Sinha passed the order while hearing a PIL filed on behalf of Bihar chapter of Indian Medical Association seeking the court's intervention to ensure protection of doctors from criminals and extortionists. The bench also asked the State Government to submit details of 76 cases against tainted police officials cleared of charges by the police department on completion of investigation. M. P. Gupta, one of the intervenor petitioners, told the court that vigilance cases were pending against several legislators, Members of Parliament and police and civil officials which required speedy disposal. The court then asked the State Vigilance Commissioner to submit the list of pending cases on May 24 when it will resume hearing on the PIL. -- PTI
