BHUBANESWAR: Over 200 students on Friday staged demonstration protesting against kidnap and murder of an engineering student and demanded compensation for the family of the victim. Students of Jagannath Institute of Engineering and Technology (JIET), Jagatpur, who came in two buses, reached the Mahatma Gandhi mark and raised slogans against the police for its alleged failure to solve the kidnap drama at its early stage. The students of JIET were joined by students from Utkal University and other city-based colleges. "Biju Patnaik University of Technology should immediately release Rs 3 lakhs towards insurance and the State Government must pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs for the murder of Pritish Ranjan Das," said Santosh Patra, a student of JIET. Demanding a probe by CBI, the students demanded transfer of Inspector-in-charge of Khandagiri Police Station as he failed to crack the main accused during interrogation. Pritish, a first year student of B.Tech. (Mechanical) of JIET, was found dead in Phase-7 area of Kalinga Nagar Township on the outskirt of the city on Thursday. He was allegedly kidnapped by his friend. Police managed to arrest two of the three accused.
