NIZAMABAD: Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mohammad Ali Shabbir has appealed to Muslims to pay attention on the education of their wards to improve socially and economically. Speaking at a function organised at Kamareddy to distribute scholarships to school children on Friday, he said to encourage education among the Muslims the Government has decided to extend scholarships and also reimburse fee right from the Class II. Scholarships to minority students would be given on par with Backward Class community students, he said and claimed that the Congress Government in the State allocated huge funds for scholarships and fee reimbursement in the budget. For the coming financial year Rs.127 crores was allocated for scholarships as against Rs.34 crores in 2004. In Nizamabad district alone it was raised to Rs.1.31 crore from just Rs. 7 lakhs during the same period, he noted. He reiterated that the Government was committed to provide five per cent reservations to the Muslim minorities in education and employment from next academic year. Earlier, the Minister distributed scholarships to 1220 students.
