GUNTUR: Two new city campuses of Acharya Nagarjuna University will be set up at Vijayawada and Guntur, which will act as nodal centres for sale and receipt of applications for admission to the courses offered by the university, issue of provisional certificates and original degrees. The Executive Committee, which met at Hyderabad on Friday, approved the proposal to set up the two campuses and authorized ANU Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas to explore the right places for setting up them in these cities. Earlier, the ANU Executive Council passed the annual budgetary estimates for 2007-2008, pegged at Rs.92.36 crores with a deficit of Rs.3.17 crores. Emphasis was laid on construction of new buildings, renovating the existing classrooms and introduction of new courses. The Executive Council gave its approval for taking up the construction of a new building, Bommidala Department of Human Resource Management, a new administrative block, an open-air auditorium and a Hindi Bhavan at a cost of Rs. 10 crores. A new building `ANU Kalavedika,' would be constructed on the university premises.
New courses
The university will introduce M. Tech (electronics), M. Sc (statistics, informatics), M. Pharmacy, M.P.Ed (Master of Physical Education) and M. Ed from the next academic year. The university was also considering introducing a five-year integrated course in sports sciences and setting up of 21st century Gurukulams. A proposal to set up a Human Resource Development Centre on the university campus was also placed before the Executive Council. University Vice- Chancellor V. Balamohandas said that training programmes would be conducted for staff members at the H.R.D Centre. The council also gave its consent to compile a record of Endowment Lectures. The two PG Centres of the ANU located at Nuzivid and Ongole would be renamed Acharya Nagarjuna University campuses.
