Lottery agents decry ban

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: Lottery agents and employees under the banner "All India lottery business and allied jobs association" staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Friday. They were protesting against a decision of the Government to ban lotteries in the State from April 1.

In a memorandum submitted to the Government through the revenue authorities here, the office-bearers of the district unit of the association said that the Government was earning a major portion of its revenues through the sale of lottery tickets.

The association urged the Government to frame rules to regulate lotteries. All lottery shops in the district downed shutters as a mark of protest.
