HYDERABAD: The Legal Metrology Department will soon set up exclusive consumer helpline to act on complaints in the twin cities. Complaints on issues like petrol and diesel retail outlets, packaged goods, agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, pesticides, seed and public distribution outlets will be entertained through the helpline. Detailing the plans of Andhra Pradesh Controller Legal Metrology (APCOLM), Controller, Legal Metrology, Tejdeep Kaur Menon said Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Vijaywada would also have similar customer helplines.
Test kits
Officials of APCOLM said that instant test kits to check adulteration of fuel in retail outlets would be acquired in another three months. "We are collecting samples of petrol and diesel from various outlets in the twin cities to prepare a library of benchmark samples. Other petrol bunks will have to match up to these benchmarks in terms of quality and quantity," Ms. Menon said. Officials made it clear that gas companies should set up a strong and reliable self-regulatory mechanism to bring in a measure of control over erring petrol and diesel outlets.
