HYDERABAD: This must be music to the ears of gas consumers who have been at the receiving end of gas agencies in the recent past. Customers who are applying for a fresh gas connection or who want to transfer the existing connection would not have to purchase gas stoves in the twin cities and elsewhere. If gas agency officials insist on mandatory purchase of stoves while applying for a cylinder, customers could lodge a complaint with dealer or with gas company concerned, according to officials from gas companies. They were attending an interactive session with Legal Metrology Department authorities here on Friday. "A gas agency has the right to suggest a good product but not force a customer to purchase it. Customers can call the helpline 040-27716349," Senior Manager, HPCL, Vijayraj Saxena said. Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies N. Raghuveera Reddy, warned dealers of legal action if they force customers to buy gas stoves. "Representatives of gas companies are here and in their presence we want to inform that we will not hesitate to take legal recourse if dealers try to force customers in this matter," Mr. Reddy reaffirmed. Officials of the gas companies said that they had already informed their agencies on this score. "The customer has every right not to purchase our products. If the agency is adamant, the customer can lodge complaint and also on www.iocl.com," said Chief Divisional Retail Manager, IOC, Y. Ravi Sankar.
