THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Rural police have arrested five persons in connection with the theft of the "panchaloha" idol of the presiding deity at Alara Bhagavathy temple in Neyyatinkara police station limits. The accused are Sabu, Aji Kumar, Babu, Suresh Kumar and Moosa Sunil Kumar. Circle Inspector, Neyyatinkara, P. Anil Kumar said the suspects were local youth who stole the idol believing it was worth Rs.12 lakh. The idol was crafted 12 years ago and is worth less than Rs.1 lakh, the CI said. A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Neyyatinkara K. Ramachandran cracked the case. The theft was reported on the night of February 23.
