Three alleged auto-lifters arrested

NEW DELHI: Three alleged auto-lifters were arrested at Model Town here on Thursday. The police claim to have recovered six stolen vehicles and a motorcycle from them.

The accused were arrested when they were travelling in a Maruti car assembled using spare-parts of stolen vehicles. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Mohammad Farid, Munazir Hussain and Sikandar Rahman. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in over two-dozen cases of auto-theft. They would dismantle the vehicles after stealing them and sold the parts in the open market.

Six alleged burglars held

NEW DELHI: Six alleged burglars were arrested following an encounter with the Crime Branch at Civil Lines here on Wednesday. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm and stolen goods worth Rs. 7 lakhs from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Jitender, Ramesh, Arvind Kumar, Shakil, Abdul Majid and Kishan Dev Yadav. During interrogation, they purportedly confessed to their involvement in nine cases of burglary. About nine months ago, they allegedly stole tyres from a truck parked at Alipur. The accused operated mainly in North-West Delhi.

High Court notice to IIC

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to India International Centre (IIC) on a PIL seeking formulation of a transparent criteria for grant of membership in the prestigious club here.

A Special Bench of Justice B N Chaturvedi and Justice V B Gupta, constituted after three Division Benches had refused to hear the matter since November last year, asked IIC to file its reply by May 4.

Court summons police officer

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Court has summoned a Deputy Commissioner of Police to explain reasons for the failure of the police to arrest two accused wanted for the murder of a 25-year-old man here.

``The report filed on behalf of DCP (Crime) does not give any satisfactory reply to the query as to why the accused, against whom Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been added in the FIR, had not been arrested in the case,'' Metropolitan Magistrate Sandeep Yadav said.
