KHAMMAM: About 200 Maoists surrounded the Maraigudem police camp in Konta division of Dantewada district in the early hours of Saturday and tried to storm it. The police retaliated with heavy firing. The exchange of fire lasted for nearly three hours but no casualties were reported on either side. The police recovered eight soap bombs, four petrol bombs, a tiffin box bomb, a 12 bore gun, a diary and Rs. 27,000 in cash from the spot as the naxals fled the village. The police could help save the inmates of the Salwa Judum camp in the village, which was also said to be the target of the Maoists. The Maraigudem (of Chhattisgarh) is few yards away from the Adavi Maraigudem village in Chintoor mandal of Khammam district.
