Belgaum: The North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) will introduce more high-tech buses that are passenger-friendly and comfortable for long journeys, including sleeper coaches, to major destinations and upgrade the bus stand here to a high-tech station soon.
Funds
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, NWKRTC Chairman Ashok Katwe said the Government had released Rs. 5 crore of the Rs. 30 crore sanctioned for the construction the bus stand. The construction work would be taken up on the BOOT (build, own, operate and transfer) basis where eligible local agencies would be accorded priority. He said modern facilities would be created keeping in view various requirements of passengers. Designs were being prepared by some of the best architects. A final decision would be taken once the designs were ready. Replying to questions, he said the corporation was presently making loss. But it was trying its best to improve the quality of service and take up development works that would boost its performance and improve revenue earnings. The corporation would introduce 1,200 new buses during the financial year of 2007-08. Along with improving the quantity, importance would be given to improving the quality of service, he said.
