BELLARY: A man and a woman reportedly died in police custody in Bellary district on Saturday. The incident has been reported in Hospet (Rural) police station. The names of the deceased were given as Neela and Mallikarjun of Turuvekere in Tumkur district. Amrit Paul, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu both Neela and Mallikarjun had been accused of murdering the former's husband at Turuvekere in Tumkur district sometime back. They had been reportedly hiding in Tirusanakallu area in Hospet city for the past couple of months. On Friday night, a report on the murder was telecast in a regional TV channel and the photographs of the accused were also shown. People in the area, who saw the television, informed the police about the two. On Saturday, Hospet (rural) police took them into custody and brought them to the police station at around 10.45 a.m. where they are said to have admitted to committing the murder. Immediately, the Tumkur police were contacted and told to reach here to take the accused into their custody, he said. At around 2.30 p.m., the accused were given food and while consuming it, they vomited. Immediately, they were shifted to the hospital, he said and added that the cause of death was being ascertained.
