Cement price increase worries YSR

Asks manufacturers to ensure supply for State projects

HYDERABAD:
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who held a review meeting with cement manufacturers in the State expressed concern at the rise in cement prices ranging from Rs.20 to Rs.30 per bag in the past two months.
Dr. Reddy, who held the review on procurement of cement for Indiramma housing programme was informed that 20,36,937 MTs were required for rural housing programme in the State whereas only 14,82,863 MTs were supplied so far.
Another round of talks
He said any more price rise would be an additional burden on the beneficiaries of Indiramma programme. The meeting decided to hold another round of talks in the third week of April.
On behalf of the industry, N. Srinivasan of India Cement informed Dr. Reddy the problems of the cement industry in the State such as inadequate fly ash supply and coal apart from issues relating to sales tax and excise duty.
He said they were committed to supply cement at the rates approved for the current year.
