Power thieves sent to jail

NEW DELHI: A special court in the NDPL area at Rohini has convicted two persons on charges of power theft and sentenced them to jail.

One of the accused, 75-year-old Balraj, a resident of Rameshwar Nagar, has been convicted for direct theft of electricity and has been sentenced to jail for 15 days. The court took a lenient view on account of his age and awarded a lighter sentence. A civil liability of Rs 40,000 has also been determined in favour of NDPL by the court in this case.

Balraj was convicted for stealing a total load of 2.10KW for domestic consumption by bypassing the meter and using illegal wires.

The other accused, Jagat Singh Rana, caretaker of Jai Darth Sayad Mazar in Prashant Vihar, has been sentenced for one month's imprisonment for direct theft of electricity.
